Delhi Capitals will be without allrounder Mitchell Marsh for the remainder of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). Marsh suffered a tear in his right hamstring during Delhi Capitals’ match against Kolkata Knight Riders in Visakhapatnam on April 3.

He flew to Australia on April 12 to consult Cricket Australia’s (CA) medical team and they have advised him to get more rest and rehabilitation before a reassessment.

Marsh is expected to lead Australia in the upcoming ICC T2O World Cup 2024, and Cricket Australia is not keen on hurrying his return to competitive cricket. The ICC T20 World Cup commences in the USA and West Indies on June 1.

Former Australia skipper and Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting confirmed Marsh’s unavailability for the remainder of the IPL and said Marsh’s availability for the T20 World Cup will not be an issue as he expects the allrounder to recover in time for the marquee event.

“I don’t think he is coming back (to the IPL). There’s a certain cutoff point with replacement players. Cricket Australia were keen to have him at home to start his recovery process, and we sent him back as soon as we could. CA has been managing his rehab for a couple of weeks now. I spoke to him the other day, and it seems it is taking a little longer than he first thought to get over it. I don’t think the T20 World Cup would be an issue,” Ponting said in New Delhi ahead of Delhi Capitals’ match against Gujarat Titans on April 24.

Marsh has played four games for Delhi Capitals in the ongoing IPL. He has scored a total of 61 in three innings, with the highest score of 23. He bowled eight overs, picking up one wicket, and with a not-so-impressive economy rate of 12.87.
